ROSE b. 1900s, USA

She is magnanimous and patient, straightforward and quirky. She is an avid explorer, and cachinnates at eccentric laughs. Her stomach is bottomless, and her choice in beverage will always be water. She has a fondness for ostriches, and an affinity for puzzles. She appreciates well seasoned candor. Her best friends are first, the Holy Spirit and at a jealous second, the thesaurus. She is a kinesthetic and visual learner, and her love language alternates. She never forgets to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. She rarely gives a staged smile when her photo is taken, and often struggles to write, especially about herself in the third person.

ROSE began drawing at an early age, studied from illustrated sources, and participated in school affiliated art competitions. Though a creative career was not encouraged during her upbringing, she continued to develop her practice independently. She later undertook formal art studies, and pursued atelier trainings in classical drawing and painting.

Having worked across a range of media, including clay; film photography; oil and acrylic paint; graphite; pastel; and crayon, her primary medium is charcoal.

Her work is grounded in realism, with a particular focus on portraiture and still lifes. By stripping away visual noise, her finished works achieve a dramatic intensity that encourages close examination of the subject and attention to details that are often overlooked, or otherwise go unnoticed.
